Windows 7 update issue with Wireless performance on Dell laptops is something on my mind these days. I have encountered the problem twice in the past month and it’s as follows:
Once you update your Win7 OS with first packages that Microsoft offers, wireless adapter fails to recognize any access point nearby and nothing seems to solve the issue but a system restore to the state before the updates.

I once encountered this on a trip in Malaysia and then again on an Inspiron 1564 last night.
I’m still searching for a solution. Any ideas!?
More information available upon request.

I’ll keep you posted.

[Update June 3rd]

I had my third encounter with this issue and here is my solution

Solution:

  1. Download the latest driver setup from Dell support website. This is actually pretty easy, all you need to do is providing the Service Tag serial number located at the bottom of the laptop and the website provides relevant drivers.
  2. Update your Windows 7 and then uninstall the Wireless Lan drivers from Device Manager, selecting the delete all driver files.
  3. Install the new driver and you are back on track.
